How to make your boss happy
I just finished my first week of work at Mattermark.
I'm smiling as I write this. It seems like the good feelings I had about the company during the interview process were right.
One of the biggest factors I had when tracking down a startup to invest my life in was working for an incredible CEO. I now sit across from her and report directly to her everyday.
One of the things I forgot about working at a larger company is how busy the CEO is, day in and day out. If it's not a meeting, it's a call or strategy session that's fighting for her time. An effective CEO simply doesn't have the bandwidth to oversee and direct everything you do. That's why you must be self directed. Take the breadcrumbs or small insights she gives you, and run with tthem. At the end of the day, write a brief recap of what you accomplished. It doesn't matter if you get a response. The daily recap gives much desired transparency to everything you're doing.
It also shows you can get shit done when no one is looking over your shoulder. And that, is a quality that all CEOs look for in their employees.
